When I was pregnant with Cora, I came across a Facebook page for a business that creates plaques capturing your child’s hand/foot prints in called Prints in Clay. I immediately knew that this would be something I wanted to do once Cora was born.
I sent a message to Jamie, the owner of Prints in Clay, after Cora was born. She scheduled an appointment for me to bring all four kids to have their prints in clay created. We went when Cora was 5 weeks old and it was such a great experience that I wanted to share.
Jamie runs her business out of her home and has a nice room set up as her office space. In there, the walls are adorned with so many different prints in creative ways. I enjoyed just looking at all of the options! I sat down to discuss what I was wanting while the kids stayed occupied by playing with toys she had just for that purpose.
We discussed what plaque design I wanted to have our prints done on and then moved on to choosing colors. The magnetic color samples made it easier to see how colors would look together, by taking our choices off of the wall and laying them out next to each other. Once colors were decided on, we chose which fonts to use. Jamie was so helpful in talking us through our options, what paired well together, and letting us take our time to make final decisions.
Once we confirmed exactly what we wanted, we moved into another room where she had the clay out and ready. The kids went one by one having their hands pressed into the clay. Jamie was so good at working with their little, yet busy, hands and getting the prints just right. Even Cora’s tiny hand whose fingers tend to be locked into a fist.
It took less than 10 minutes to have all of the prints done and that was all we had to do. Jamie would do the rest and then contact us once our completed pieces were ready to be picked up. We enjoyed a little chat and getting to know Jamie a little more before we left and stopped for lunch on the way home.
The next day, Jamie sent me a text with a little preview of what she had done. The edges and names were engraved as we had chosen. Just a few weeks later, Jamie text me again to let me know our prints were completed and ready to be picked up.
They turned out perfect and I love them! Having Cora’s tiny prints to cherish is something I wish I had with the other three. Seeing all four kids’ hands together is so special to me. I’m already thinking about when I can go back to have more prints created.
If you are in the north Texas area and have little ones, I would highly recommend contacting Jamie with Prints in Clay to help create some special keepsakes. Not only for yourself, but they would also make great gifts for grandparents or other special people in your life. Plaques, ornaments, jewelry bowl, necklaces, and more. There are so many options to create the perfect piece.
