Black, white, and polka dots. The perfect combo for a quick outfit that will still make you look put together. I love simple tops like this. It’s on sale and the material is so light weight and comfortable.
Last week, I had one person genuinely ask why I seemed “dressed-up” every day when I was dropping my oldest two kids off at their art class. A few days later, I had two people tell me that I always look “put together.” Those comments came while I was feeling completely scattered at Chick-Fil-A, with all four kids, by myself! I gave them honest answers and thought I’d share that here, too.
I like to “dress up” and feel “put together” every day simply because I like to. I like to wear dresses or nice outfits, and with heels more often than not (short girl problems). Even if all I do that day is run my kids from one place to the next. I’m usually less lazy if I feel like I have myself put together. But you’d better believe that when I’m home for the day (and sometimes even in between leaving the house), I throw on a t-shirt and sweatpants. Especially these days when I get baby spit up on me more times than I care to count.
Being “put together” is easy for those to think when they just see me in passing. Or see my social media feed. Sure, I might have an outfit on that makes me look put together and feel confident, but I can promise you that there is all kinds of chaos going on in my life on any given day.
Just this week, Cora was taking her sweet time nursing when we needed to be leaving to get the kids to school. You know, when there are still 10 things to do so everyone is ready to go, but you’re stuck on the couch? Thank goodness for Savannah (and Hudson) who are big helpers and often make me look “put together.” About the time we were walking out the door to leave (already late), Maddox informed me that he needed to go potty…not just pee. By the time I had everyone loaded up, I realized the air in my tire was low. Again. So I had to take time to air up my tire.
That’s when my frantic rush to leave just gave up. We were late, way late, and that’s just the way it was going to be. Once I finally got everyone to school, I thought a little retail therapy would get my day back on track. That’s when Cora spit-up (a LOT) all over me, her, and the floor of Target. All of this within the first two hours of my day. The day never did really recover.
Thankfully, I have a husband who is always willing to help me however he can. Whether it be cooking dinner when he gets home from work, helping with homework and bedtimes, or getting the kids fed, ready, and off to school on the mornings he is home. I would most certainly be a hot mess if it weren’t for all the things he does.
All that to say, yes, I like to be dressed nice, but it doesn’t mean I’m all that put together. I’m just a wife and a mom to 4 little kids who also likes to feel pretty.
